WE WILL START WITH PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE.

>> WE USUALLY START WITH ONE OF OUR STRATEGIC PLAN OR VISION STATEMENT OR A MISSION.

SO TONIGHT WE'LL JUST DO OUR STRATEGIC PLAN GOALS.

OUR STRATEGIC PLANS ARE SUCCESS FOR ALL, SAFE, HEALTHY AND CARING ENVIRONMENT, EFFECTIVE AND EFFICIENT OPERATIONS, AND POSITIVELY ENGAGED IN INFORMED COMMUNITY.

TONIGHT ALSO NUMBER 5, THEY'RE ON OUR LIST IS THE SAFETY AND SECURITY STATEMENT AND I'LL CALL ON THE SUPERINTENDENT HERE IN A MOMENT.

JUST WE'VE RECEIVED A FEW EMAILS AFTER THE TRAGEDY IN TEXAS ASKING WHAT WE ARE DOING HERE IN TETON COUNTY AND THAT'S A VERY APPROPRIATE QUESTION TO BE ASKING.

MOST OF US, ALL OF US HERE ON THIS BOARD ARE PARENTS ALSO, AND WE HAVE THE SAME CONCERNS THAT YOU HAVE AS PARENTS ALSO.

A DAY AFTER THE SHOOTINGS, THE SCHOOL BOARD ASK THE SUPERINTENDENT TO REVIEW ALL OF OUR POLICIES AND PROCEDURES TO MAKE SURE WE'RE ALL ON THE SAME PAGE, ESPECIALLY WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT.

THE SUPERINTENDENT MET WITH BOTH THE POLICE CHIEF AND THE SHERIFF, JUST TO REMIND EVERYONE WE DO HAVE TWO SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS, ONE AT THE HIGH SCHOOL AND THEN ANOTHER AT MIDDLE-SCHOOL, AND THAT DEALS WITH THE IN TOWN ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS ALSO.

ALL OF OUR DOORS ARE SECURED, YOU CAN USE AN ID BADGE SYSTEM THAT ELECTRONICALLY LEAD TEACHERS AND STAFF IN AND OUT OF THE DOORS, AND THE BOARD DID ASK THE SUPERINTENDENT TO SEND A MESSAGE OUT TO STAFF TO REMIND STAFF TO NOT PROP DOORS OPEN, AND YOU MAY HAVE NOTICED THAT WE PLACED YELLOW SAND FILLED PLANTERS AND OR BOLLARDS IN FRONT OF SOME OTHER WORDS.

THE SCHOOL DISTRICT MATCHES NOW, IN EXECUTIVE SESSION, WE'RE ALLOWED TO GO INTO EXECUTIVE SESSION TO DISCUSS SAFETY AND SECURITY WHERE THE KNOWLEDGE WOULD BE DETRIMENTAL.

SO WE HAD A LONG DISCUSSION, WENT THROUGH A LOT OF STRUCTURAL ISSUES THAT MAY OR MAY NOT BE PRESENT IN OUR SCHOOLS AND DISCUSS THOSE IN DEPTH.

THEN WE'LL BE WORKING ON SOME OF THOSE THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER AND WE JUST WANT TO ASSURE EVERYONE, NO PARENT SHOULD EVER HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT DROPPING OFF THEIR CHILD IN THE MORNING, THAT THEY WON'T BE THERE AT THE END OF THE DAY.

NOW, SUPERINTENDENT DID YOU WANT TO GO THROUGH SOME OF THE ISSUES AND I BELIEVE SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER [INAUDIBLE] IS HERE ALSO TO SPEAK.

>> THANK YOU. CHAIR GINGERY AND TRUSTEES, AS YOU KNOW, SAFETY AND SECURITY OF OUR STUDENTS IS ALL ON THE FOREFRONT OF OUR MIND AND OUR STAFF.

WE'VE TAKEN THIS SERIOUSLY, NOT JUST FOLLOWING WHEN INCIDENTS HAPPEN NATIONALLY, BUT THERE'S RARELY A TIME WHEN I'M NOT THINKING ABOUT SAFETY AND SECURITY.

AS AN EXAMPLE, DURING GRADUATION, THE ENTIRE TIME I'M SCANNING THE CROWD AND I'M LOOKING AT AND THINKING ABOUT WHAT COULD I DO IN AN EMERGENCY, IN A VARIETY OF EMERGENCIES.

THAT'S ALWAYS ON MY MIND, AND WE HAVE DONE A NUMBER OF THINGS QUICKLY OVER TIME.

WE DON'T TYPICALLY SHARE OUR VERY DETAILED PLANS.

IN THE EVENT THAT IT FALLS INTO SOMEONE'S HANDS THAT MAYBE THINKING ABOUT DOING SOMETHING.

WHILE THAT SEEMS COUNTER-INTUITIVE, WE WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW THAT WHAT WE'RE DOING.

YET ON THE OTHER HAND, WE DON'T WANT TO PROVIDE INFORMATION OR KNOWLEDGE TO SOMEONE.

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING THAT I CAN SAY FOR ANY COMMUNITY IS RELATIONSHIPS ARE KEY.

IT'S SO IMPORTANT WHAT OUR STAFF AND OUR COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND OUR FELLOW STUDENTS ARE DOING DAY IN AND DAY OUT.

THAT'S WHERE WE GET THE BEST AND THE MOST IMPORTANT INFORMATION.

FOR PEOPLE TO FEEL COMFORTABLE AND EMPOWERED.

IF THEY SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING, IF IT MAKES THEM FEEL SOMETHING, OR THEY HEARD SOMETHING, JUST HAPHAZARDLY REPORT IT SO THAT WE CAN INVESTIGATE IT.

THAT'S ALWAYS THE BEST STRATEGY RIGHT AWAY.

WE APPRECIATE THAT, THAT PEOPLE ARE COMFORTABLE DOING THAT AND THAT OUR STAFF HAVE TAKEN THIS SERIOUSLY.

WE DO HAVE A GREAT PARTNERSHIP WITH BOTH THE TOWN OF JACKSON POLICE AND THE SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT.

I HAVE EVERYONE'S CELL PHONE NUMBERS AND THEY PICK UP AND WHEN I CALL, EVEN IF IT'S A MINOR THING, AND I JUST REALLY APPRECIATE THAT PROFESSIONALISM.

DEPUTY ROUNDY IS HERE THIS EVENING AND HIS RELATIONSHIPS THAT HE'S BUILT OVER TIME WITH OUR COMMUNITY AND WITH PRIMARILY THE HIGH SCHOOL AND SOME THAT ARE THE TWO SCHOOLS HE SPENDS MOST OF THE TIME AT.

BUT HE IS KNOWLEDGEABLE AND IN OF ALL OUR BUILDINGS.

THE OTHER THING I WOULD SAY ABOUT THE POLICE AND THE SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT, THEY CONDUCT REGULAR TRAININGS IN ALL OF OUR BUILDINGS.

THEY HAVE BEEN IN ALL OF OUR BUILDINGS ESPECIALLY RECENTLY WITH A GREAT PRESENCE.

ANYTIME THERE'S A NEW OFFICER, THEY'RE SHADOWING WITH DEPUTY ROUNDY AND THEY ARE TOURING IN OUR SCHOOLS SO THAT THEY'RE FAMILIAR WITH THE LAYOUT OF THE BUILDINGS AND ANY KIND OF EMERGENCY THEY CAN RESPOND.

DEPUTY ROUNDY IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE? YOU COME TO THE PODIUM.

BUT IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO ADD?

I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT FOR PEOPLE TO KNOW THAT THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE SCHOOL DISTRICT AND LAW ENFORCEMENT IS STRONG.

THERE'S NEVER BEEN A SITUATION THAT I'M AWARE OF WHERE WE COULDN'T COME TOGETHER, WORK TOWARD SOLUTIONS OF PROBLEMS, ANYTHING THAT WE NEED OR THE SCHOOL NEED THAT HASN'T BEEN MET.

ALSO, LAW ENFORCEMENT IS VERY PROACTIVE IN WANTING TO BE IN THE SCHOOLS, THE SCHOOL DISTRICT HAS BEEN VERY GREAT WITH LETTING US HAVE ACCESS TO THE BUILDING FOR TRAINING, WHICH IS GOOD FOR US.

BUT EVEN MORE THAN THAT, THEY'VE GONE OUT OF THEIR WAY AND GIVEN US ID BADGES SO THAT WE CAN ACCESS IN CASE OF EMERGENCIES 24/7, EVERY OFFICER HAS THOSE.

I DON'T WANT TO GO IN TOO MUCH, LIKE KEITH SAID ABOUT WHAT WE'RE DOING TO KEEP THE BUILDING SAFE, BUT THERE'S A GREAT PARTNERSHIP.

RELATIONSHIPS ARE KEY AND I THINK WORKING TOWARDS THOSE RELATIONSHIPS CONTINUE TO HELP.

I THINK YOU HAVE SOME CELEBRATIONS.

IT DOESN'T FEEL LIKE MY LEAST FAVORITE DAY OF THE SCHOOL YEAR, WHICH IS THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL, DOESN'T FEEL LIKE THAT TO ME THIS YEAR FOR SOME REASON.

THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL IS ALWAYS, IN MY OPINION, THE WORST DAY OF THE YEAR BUT WE HAVE ALREADY BEEN PLANNING AND LOOKING AHEAD TO THE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR.

I KNOW THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE THAT ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO OUR LAST DAY OF SCHOOL.

WE HAD WONDERFUL CELEBRATIONS OF THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF GRADUATES AT BOTH JACKSONVILLE HIGH SCHOOL AND SUMMIT.

THOSE WERE WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITIES TO LOOK AT THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF OUR SENIOR CLASS, OUR LARGEST GRADUATING CLASS TODAY, AND ALSO THE SMALLEST GRADUATING CLASS FOR THE NEAR FUTURE.

OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT CONTINUES TO GROW AND OBVIOUSLY WE HAD A LOT OF CELEBRATIONS WITH ONE OF THE HIGHEST GRADUATION RATES IN THE STATE, AS WELL AS THE NUMBER ONE HIGH SCHOOL IN THE STATE AGAIN.

WE HAVE A LOT OF THINGS TO CELEBRATE AND APPRECIATE YOUR LEADERSHIP TO THAT ENDEAVOR.

THE NEXT CELEBRATION, I'D LIKE TO ASK ANNIE KOBILKA TO COME IN.

SHE IS TAKING THE PLACE OF MIKE HANSEN THIS EVENING AND INTRODUCING OUR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS. GO AHEAD.

WHEN I LOOK AROUND THE ROOM AND WHEN I LOOK OUTSIDE THE STUDENTS THAT WE'RE HONORING, IT'S REALLY COOL TO SEE THEM BECAUSE I HAVE LITTLE STORIES OF EACH OF THEM IN MY HEAD AND I THINK IT'S REALLY NICE TO HIGHLIGHT HOW GREAT THEY ARE AS ATHLETES, BUT ALSO AS STUDENTS AT THE HIGH SCHOOL AND IN OUR BUILDING EVERY DAY, IN THE HALLWAYS AND THEN THEIR CLASSROOMS. I'M GOING TO TURN IT OVER TO THEIR COACHES TO INTRODUCE THEM AND SHARE A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THEM.

FIRST STEP IS TRACK AND FIELD.

WE HAVE BILL WILDLY COMING UP TO INTRODUCE THEM.

GREAT TRACK SEASON, IT WAS CULMINATED WITH PROBABLY THE WORST THREE DAYS OF WEATHER [LAUGHTER] I'VE EVER SEEN THAT WAS MY 21ST STATE TRACK MEET AND THAT WAS PROBABLY THE MOST FICKLE I'VE EVER SEEN IT.

BUT AS WE GOT BACK ON THE BUS, CAME HOME AND GET OUT.

FIVE ALL STATUS, TWO OF THEM ARE ACTUALLY NOT HERE TODAY AMAZINGLY, THEY [INAUDIBLE] ARE RUNNING A NIKE NATIONALS RIGHT NOW.

BUT WE DO HAVE THREE MEMBERS OF OUR BACK-TO-BACK STATE GIRLS [INAUDIBLE] RELAY TEAM.

STATE RECORD HOLDERS BACK-TO-BACK AND IT'S AMAZING STUFF.

IT'S REALLY COOL RELAY BECAUSE THESE TWO LADIES ARE [INAUDIBLE] THEY STARTED OUT WITH THE 200 METER AND THEN HANDED OFF TO SENIOR [INAUDIBLE] SHE GOT THERE IN TIME [LAUGHTER].

BACK TO BACK IT'S J-CF HAD A GREAT YEAR [INAUDIBLE] [LAUGHTER] STANDING UP THERE.

BUT WE GOT TWO MORE YEARS AT LEAST TWICE NOW AND THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT.

WE WENT THREE IN A ROW AGAIN, OR THREE IN A ROW.

WHEN I WAS TALKING TO THE BOYS, I SAID WE'RE GOING TO PLAY WITH A CLASS DAY IN AND DAY OUT.

WE'RE GOING TO PRACTICE WITH CLASS DAY IN AND DAY OUT, AND ON THE SOCCER FIELD WE'RE GOING TO BE A MACHINE.

SOMEHOW THIS CLASSY MACHINE STUCK, AND IT WAS OUR MANTRA FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR.

THEY REALLY LIVED UP TO THAT, SO IT'S GREAT WORK BIG BOYS. THANK YOU.

SHE GREETS THEM IN THE LUNCH LINE, AND THAT'S EVERY SINGLE DAY, NOT JUST WHEN SHE'S ON DUTY, BUT THAT'S EVERY SINGLE DAY.

SHE BAKES CUPCAKES FOR THEM WHEN IT'S THEIR BIRTHDAY.

SHE CREATES MINDFULNESS VIDEOS FOR THEM TO PARTICIPATE IN.

SHE'S ALWAYS WILLING TO SUB, JUST ALWAYS WILLING TO STEP IN FOR THE OFFICE STAFF.

IN ELEMENTARY, WHEN A NEW COMER REGISTERS, WE COUNSEL THEM.

WE HAVE OUR SPANISH-SPEAKING COUNSELOR, JOSE RAVA'S, MEET WITH THE FAMILY AND WE COUNSEL THEM AND LET THEM KNOW THAT WE BELIEVE MANGERS DUAL IMMERSION PROGRAM IS BY FAR THE BEST PLACEMENT FOR THEM, BUT WE ALSO HAVE A NEIGHBORHOOD SCHOOL AND IT IS THE PARENT'S CHOICE.

WE DO HAVE SOME STUDENTS, FIVE AT JS THIS YEAR, LAST YEAR THERE ARE ONE OR TWO AT CULTURE AS WELL WHO DO OPT TO BE IN THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD SCHOOL AND UNDERSTAND THAT PARENT CHOICE.

BUT STILL, MONGER MOUNTAIN IS DUAL MODEL WHERE STUDENTS CAN BE IN SPANISH, FIFTH PERSON OF THE DAY IS CLEARLY THE BEST MODEL.

THE MASTER FOLK KINDER TEACHERS HAVE FOR YEARS IN BOTH DUAL AND IN TRADITIONAL, HAD KINDER STUDENTS BEGIN THE YEAR WITH VERY LIMITED ENGLISH PROFICIENCY.

WE'RE TALKING ABOUT ARRIVING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE K HERE ALL THE WAY UP TO GRADE 12.

THESE STUDENTS ARE ENROLLED AT SOME PORTION OF THEIR DAY,

THEN OTHER THAN MONGER, IN PAST YEARS THEY'VE RECEIVED ADDITIONAL ELD SUPPORT AS WELL.

BUT THESE STUDENTS AWESOME, AND I DON'T WANT TO OVERGENERALIZE THAT WOULD BE INACCURATE AND UNFAIR.

BUT MANY OF THESE STUDENTS ARE COMING WITH SOME TRAUMA OR SOME DIFFICULTIES IN IMMIGRATION.

IMMIGRATION ALONE CAN BE PRESENT SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL NEEDS.

WHAT WE SEE IS THAT MANY OF OUR STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES HAVE STRUGGLED TO GET HERE AND THE ARRIVAL DOES BRING WITH IT THE NEED FOR SOCIAL EMOTIONAL SUPPORT.

WHAT WE MEAN BY FAMILY SUPPORT IS NEITHER THE STUDENT NOR THE FAMILY KNOWS WHAT IT MEANS, TYPICALLY THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT IT MEANS TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN A US OR IN TETON COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM.

A LOT OF OUR SUPPORT IS WHERE WE'RE SOCIALIZING THEM TO OUR SCHOOL SYSTEM, NOT ASSIMILATING, BUT SOCIALIZING.

WE COULD DO A LOT MORE HERE.

RESOURCES ARE LIMITED, TIME'S LIMITED, BUT THIS IS WHAT WE'RE ATTEMPTING TO DO.

RESOURCE ALLOCATION IS A COLD TERM.

WE'LL ANALYZE ON A CASE-BY-CASE BASIS.

BUT OUR VISION FOR NEXT YEAR IS WHEN ELEMENTARY STUDENTS ARRIVE, PARENTS MAY OPT TO GO TO JACKSON OR CULTURE AS THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD SCHOOL, BUT WE ARE GOING TO REQUIRE THEM TO GO TO MONGERS NEWCOMER FOR THE FIRST 12 WEEKS, WHERE WE'LL BE ABLE TO PROVIDE AN INTENSIFIED ENGLISH LANGUAGE BOOT CAMP, FOR LACK OF A BETTER PHRASE.

BUT THEY'LL SPEND THREE, THREE-AND-HALF, MAYBE EVEN FOUR HOURS IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE, AND THEN THEY'LL MOVE INTO THE SPANISH LANGUAGE ARTS PART OF DUAL IMMERSION.

MY HOPE IS THAT FOR THOSE FAMILIES THAT WOULD RATHER BE AT JACKSON CULTURE, USUALLY DUE TO TRANSPORTATION, THAT'S THE KEY FOR THEM.

THEY WANT TO BE CLOSE TO WHERE THEIR STUDENT IS, AND THEY MIGHT NOT HAVE TRANSPORTATION.

BUT MY HOPE IS, AND I THINK IT WILL PLAY OUT THIS WAY, IS THAT THOSE FAMILIES, ONCE THEY GO TO MONGER AND THEY'RE THERE FOR THE 12 WEEKS, THAT THEY'LL SEE HOW WONDERFUL THE SCHOOL IS FOR THEM AND THAT'S WHERE THEY'LL STAY.

IF WE LOOK AT THIS NUMBER NEXT YEAR, I HOPE WE DON'T HAVE 53.

WE DON'T HAVE THE RESOURCES AT LEAST ALLOCATED AT THIS POINT TO CONTINUE TO SUPPORT 53 MORE NEWCOMERS.

BUT IF WE LOOK AT THIS, MY HOPE IS THAT MONGER HAS ALL OF THE ELEMENTARY STUDENTS.

I WOULD SAY IN A SHOUT OUT TO YOU-ALL AND TO THE DISTRICT WD FUNDS ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHERS AT 100 EL STUDENTS TO ONE STAFF MEMBER, 100 TO 1 RATIO.

WE FIND ABOVE AND BEYOND THAT WE'RE THREE TIMES THAT WE'RE JUST ABOUT 30 TO 1.

WITH THIS CHANGE AND STAFF ALLOCATION FOR NEXT YEAR, ALL THE SCHOOLS FLUCTUATE OR RANGE RATHER FROM 18-1, THAT'S THE LOWEST AND THAT'LL BE THE COMBINED HIGH-SCHOOL SUMMIT TO THE HIGH OF MONGER AT 53-1.

THE THREE TEACHERS AT MONGER NEXT YEAR WILL BE MEETING THE NEEDS OF NOT ONLY THE NEWCOMERS, BUT PROVIDING ELDS SUPPORT, TRADITIONAL ELDS SUPPORT.

BUT THE REALITY IS WHEN WE NEED TO ALLOCATE RESOURCES, THE NEED NOW IS AT MONGER AND THERE'S NO WAY, GIVEN THIS LIMITED NUMBER OF RESOURCES THAT WE WON'T REDUCE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF JACKSON ELEMENTARY.

SO OBVIOUSLY THAT'S AN HONEST STATEMENT.

WHAT WOULD BE A BETTER OUTCOME IS ADDING AN EL TEACHER WHO ARE ALREADY THREE TIMES HIGHER THAN WERE FUNDED BY THE STATE.

WHILE WE HAVE A LOT OF EXTRA MONEY, COVID RELIEF MONEY, IT MAY APPEAR THAT THERE'S MONEY EVERYWHERE BUT THAT'S NOT THE CASE.

THAT MONEY IS SPENT OR ARE FUN TEN IS TIGHT BUT IF THE BUDGET WERE TO ALLOW FOR IT, I WOULD BE VERY MUCH IN FAVOR OF SIMPLY HIRING ANOTHER ELT, EXCUSE ME, ANOTHER TEACHER FOR MONGER MOUNTAIN.

IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR CYBER LIABILITY COVERAGE, WE ARE HAVING TO DO SOME ENHANCED INITIATIVES, INCLUDING THINGS LIKE MULTI-FACTOR AUTHENTICATION, WHICH WILL HAVE AN IMPACT OF STAFF.

BUT WE HAVE OUR HOWARD MCINTYRE AND THE TECH TEAM WORKED CLOSELY WITH HUB INSURANCE AND STEVE MAINLY TO ENSURE THAT WE HAVE THE SYSTEMS IN PLACE THAT MADE US ELIGIBLE TO EVEN RECEIVE A QUOTE FOR CYBER COVERAGE.

SINCE THOSE LETTERS, I HAVE HAD SEVERAL FACULTY AND PARENTS REACH OUT AND THANK ME FOR SPEAKING UP ABOUT THIS ISSUE.

AS YOU KNOW, I LIVE IN WILSON AND I HAVE A CHILD WHO IS FINISHING UP THIRD GRADE AND A CHILD WHO WILL BE ENTERING KINDERGARTEN NEXT YEAR, WITH YOUR HELP, THE SPEED LIMIT IN FRONT OF WILSON'S SCHOOL WAS LOWERED TO 35 MILES AN HOUR AND A SAFE CROSSING OF WYOMING 22 AT WILSON SCHOOL IS PLANNED TO OPEN NEXT YEAR.

MORE CHILDREN ARE KILLED BY GUN VIOLENCE EACH YEAR THAN MILITARY TROOPS AND POLICE OFFICERS COMBINED.

SINCE 2000, THERE HAVE BEEN 374 SCHOOL SHOOTINGS.

THAT IS AN AVERAGE OF ALMOST TWO SHOOTINGS A MONTH.

THE PSYCHOLOGICAL TOLL THAT THIS TAKES ON FACULTY, STUDENTS AND PARENTS CANNOT BE UNDERESTIMATED.

SETTING OFF NEGATIVE SHOCK WAVES THROUGH OUR COMMUNITIES.

THE PAST COUPLE OF WEEKS, I AND OTHER PARENTS I'VE SPOKEN TO HAVE WONDERED, ARE WE TO TELL OUR CHILDREN IF YOU HEAR GUNSHOTS TO GET OUT AND RUN HOME OR SMEAR YOURSELF WITH BLOOD AND PLAY DEAD, AS MIAH CERRILLO THE 11-YEAR-OLD SURVIVOR OF THE UVALDE SHOOTING DID? CAN THEY TRUST THE POLICE OFFICERS WILL PROTECT THEM BECAUSE MIAH'S 911 CALLS WENT UNRESPONDED TO FOR 80 MINUTES, EVEN THOUGH THOUGH THE POLICE WERE OUTSIDE HER CLASSROOM.

THEN THE NEXT DAY ARE WE TO DROP THESE CHILDREN OFF AT SCHOOL AND EXPECT THEM TO TRUST US? FOR THOSE KIDS THAT KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON.

OUR MIDDLE SCHOOLERS AND HIGH SCHOOLERS, WILL THEY TAKE THE ADULTS IN THE ROOM SERIOUSLY? WHO TELL THEM TO STAY AWAY FROM DRUGS AND ALCOHOL AND TO APPLY THEMSELVES IN SCHOOLS? IF THOSE ADULTS WILL NOT BE BOLD ENOUGH TO LEVERAGE THEIR INFLUENCE TO BETTER ENSURE THEIR SAFETY.

TETON COUNTY IS NOT IMMUNE TO THE GUN VIOLENCE EPIDEMIC AND IT CAN SNEAK INTO OUR COMMUNITY IN UNEXPECTED WAYS.

A YOUNG MAN I KNOW WHO IS VULNERABLE TEENAGER, WAS ENCOURAGED TO BUY AN ASSAULT RIFLE BY HIS YOUTH PASTOR WHEN HE TURNED 18.

YOU OVERSEE THE WELL-BEING OF 2869 STUDENTS PLUS THE FACULTY AND TANGENTIALLY THE FAMILIES OF THESE STUDENTS AND EMPLOYEES.

WHILE THEY SHOWED US THE DRILLS, LOCKED DOORS, AND LAW ENFORCEMENT, REINFORCEMENT IS NOT ENOUGH.

ARMING TEACHERS IS NOT THE SOLUTION.

STUDENTS AND FACULTY CANNOT REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL IF THEY FEEL THEIR LIFE IS IN DANGER, AND THE QUESTION LOOMS WHETHER THE PEOPLE ELECTED TO OVERSEE THEM HAVE THEIR BACK.

I BELIEVE IT IS THE OBLIGATION OF TCSD TO WRITE A FORMAL LETTER TO SENATOR BARROSO, SENATOR LOOMIS, REPRESENTATIVE CHENEY, AND GOVERNOR GORDON AND ASK FOR THE FOLLOWING.

ASSAULT RIFLES SHOULD BE BANNED.

THESE WEAPONS OF WAR HAVE NO PLACE IN PEACEFUL SOCIETY AND IT MAKES IT EVEN MORE DIFFICULT FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT TO PROTECT CIVILIANS.

TO LIMIT MAGAZINE CAPACITY TO FIVE ROUNDS, TO HAVE UNIVERSAL BACKGROUND CHECKS EXTENDED TO PRIVATE SALES AND GUN SHOWS, TO HAVE EXTENDED WAIT PERIODS OF 28 DAYS FROM PURCHASE TO DELIVERY OF GUNS.

RED FLAG LAWS, RAISE THE AGE TO PURCHASE ALL GUNS TO 21.

REQUIRE A LICENSE TO OWN A GUN AND HOLD GUN MANUFACTURERS AND SALESPEOPLE ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE GUN VIOLENCE.

I UNDERSTAND AND RESPECT THE RIGHTS AND INTERESTS OF RESPONSIBLE ADULTS TO HAVE GUNS FOR HUNTING AND PROTECTION.
